JC:
>It was called a Reuter Dealing System. And it was an intranet of sorts.

Actually, it's called a computer network! Gee it's a pity you weren't working airline check-in counters in the '60s, JC, you could have regaled us with how you used the internets back then too!

Priceless.

Jules, if you give this nimrod

fifteen hundred bucks, I'm gonna

shoot 'em on general principles.

Pulp Fiction, 1994, Miramax, Los Angeles.

Of course, they just don't teach the classics nowadays. I blame the Labor government.

SL:
>To be fair you’re stretching stuff when you start relying on the Grauniad (Private Eye joke).
My understanding was that Gore suggested he could take the internet away. Even if he invented it, that does suggest he was something of a nimrod - or at least a braggart.

To be fair, SL, you're stretching stuff when you prefer to rely on your vague "understanding" rather than source quotations. Got any that support your point of view? And what's with the selective attack on my sources? Honestly: you think Newt Gingrich is a loyal Guardian reader? Do you have anything that suggests any of these quotes are incorrect? Do you actually know much about it? Do you know Al like JC does...;-) Have you considered that, delightful as these spiteful myths are, they might in fact be false?

JC:
>Barnes, Anser this question.DId AlGore invent the internet?

Where did he say he did? Read the original quote in context. Idiot...;-)

It's easy to take people's words and spin them. Remember that time you were pretending how you knew Al Gore, JC? Right here on this forum? "You don't know him like I know him" or something? Yet you really didn't...

See how easy it is to do?

No. It's not new actually. It's an America form of abuse. It's like calling someone a right royal Charlie.

It is interchangable with doofus and nimbus

In contemporary U.S.slang, "nimrod"means "fool, numbskull".
Rex Knepp ingeniously suggested that the origin of this was Bugs
Bunny's taunt of Elmer Fudd: "So long, Nimrod." Unfortunately for
this theory, Jesse Sheidlower says that Random House has two
citations of "nimrod" = "numbskull" from the 1930s, before the Bugs
Bunny episode containing the taunt.
