“I see almost dead people…”

By Legal Eagle

In Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series, cats can see Death. Maybe there’s something in this? I came across this very freaky story about a cat which knows when time is up for patients in a nursing home…

Animals are very good with their senses. Once during horse-riding, my horse stopped running because there were two snakes near by and once they had left, it resumed its galloping.

I actually find that story quite comforting (although I’d probably say different if the cat was sitting at the end of my bed!).

Still, it’s nice to know that in the final hours of one’s life, there’s something there to give you comfort and peace.

LE, this story freaked me out too, I’m so glad you agree. You’d be shooing that cat away if it came near you!

I can’t help myself, I have to say… I think Oscar the cat went and sat by Oz Attorney-General Philip Ruddock’s bed several years ago…that man is one pale looking fellow!

Did you notice the howler in the article?

The two-year-old feline grew up in a dementia unit at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre.

It treats people with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and other illnesses.

So a cat treats people with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s? I hope the moggy bulk bills.

    There is… another explanation

Lad Litter: I hope that the cat is properly qualified to “treat” people!

I suspect what they meant is that the cat was instituted as a way of making patients feel better (sometimes they have dogs as well). Apparently it is not a very friendly cat generally, unless it sees someone is dying, then it cries to sit on them.
