I agree totally. What the heck is wrong with a simple after work drink? Or a lunch out with the team?

I think being a teacher, an ambo or a policewoman would be intrinsically stressful jobs. All dealing with people, and in the latter two cases, dealing with people in emergencies. In the former case, dealing with teenagers.

When my Mum was a teacher, she had some "stress management" dude come out and give them stress management tips. This fellow's advice was to "take 5 minutes out, to breathe deeply and perhaps go out to the garden and sniff some flowers".

Mum was rather cynical. "How can I go out and smell the flowers if I've got a 6 on day and I'm doing yard duty? I can't just leave my class unsupervised. Or stop half way through a class and breathe deeply!"

stress into psychiatric injury claims are practically impossible following the High Court decisions in this area. It is just too hard to impute knowledge in the employer that the employee was at risk of suffering a psychiatric illness, and not "mere" stress. They have raised the bar too high. Then again, the govt was being swamped with stress claims from police, ambos and teachers.

team building works best by an after works drinks / bbq. What is wrong with keeping it simple and in house? I hate most work functions outside of work hours - takes away from my family time, and when people are forced into something, it doesn't work!

I'm with you dodo, oops I mean LE.
