... other magazines have been able to come through the internet and thrive.

You'll have to refresh my memory. Most Australian magazines have to be carried by their media company (or in the historical case of Quadrant, the CIA).

The Bulletin was top heavy with the same old hacks. Laurie Oakes did have worthwhile things to say and Patrick Cook was occasionally funny but I found most of it just dull. The piece on Peter Garrett last year was PR for a guy who proved useless and then worse.

It just never made the transition to a 21 century publication, visually literate yet still serious and with a global focus.

Maybe Tim can write for Quadrant under the new regime:)

By the way, Tim is feeling a great deal better every day, as normal after major surgery. He is looking forward to coming out and eating like a pig to make up the weight he will lose during his lay up. Don't expect to see him on the field until late in the second round.

I have to say that I hope another publication picks up Tim Blairs extremely funny column. Laurie Oakes will have no trouble finding another home.

As someone else said on the Open Forum, it's the sort of mag you'd read in the waiting room of a doctor's but not something worth spending money on.

It became increasingly shallow and sensationalist, all the while trying to pretend it was a serious newsmagazine. And it would include 2 or 3 pages from Newsweek, passing it off as if it was the real deal. It became silly and irrelevant, and people stopped buying it.
