In the competition for world’s freakiest voice, Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has it covered. Unsurprisingly a member of the large (and vastly talented) Yunupingu family, he has developed his own distinctive style (if you’re wondering about the upside-down guitar, he’s both blind and left handed – presumably just turning the thing on its ear was easier than re-stringing).
UPDATE (via Amanda in comments): His latest album is available here. At the moment he’s with an independent label, but somehow I suspect that won’t last long. What a talent!

Dunno what the song is about, but the beauty of this guy’s voice and the emotion he puts into it makes me want to cry. Fabulous.
My daughter thought he was good too.
No idea what the song’s about either, and I’m assuming the language is one of the NT Aboriginal languages – but his voice is amazing.
If you buy the CD the booklet has English translations. He sings in a couple of different Indigenous languages, Gälpu, Gumatj, Djambarrpuynu.
I just got the CD from the label Skinnyfish so I’m gonna try to bung up a quick post today. It’s all really very beauitful.
Damn. I downloaded mine from iTunes – so no translations. I don’t think he’s available in the UK – well, not that I’ve seen. I could try Blackwell’s Music tomorrow – they do well on the overseas CDs front.
Try the label if you could wait a week or so

Amanda, I’ll add that link to the post – thanks a bunch.
