From Genocide to Altmed

By skepticlawyer

You could say that Radovan Karadzic successfully treated over 7,500 Bosnian Muslims with his ‘alternative therapy’. One bullet to the brain and the men never experienced health problems ever again.

That’s his business card. And no, I’m not kidding.

Gives new meaning to the MBA phrase ‘interesting career progression’.

You have to admit, alternative therapy is the last place you’d look for a medically qualified psychiatrist.

I wonder if he’s written a poem about his military exploits.

That Karadzic defence in full: “It could have been worse, it could have been us!”

Bad poetry is undoubtedly on the cards, Steve.

I am being sincere when I ask this, but is “ethnic cleansing” always the vilest of crimes and never justified or even desirable? I don’t mean killing people or genocide like this Karasicko, I mean population transfers of groups of people who are involved in hideous war organised according to their ethnicities. For example Turkey and Greece in the 1920s and India/Pakistan in the 1940s?

Correct me if I’m wrong but the term “ethnic cleansing” only really came into popular usage during the 1990s Balkans Crisis, but now it is routinely retrojected onto all sorts of conflicts going back to the dawn of time.

Surely, there are occasions when this is preferable to just letting the two sides keep killing each other until one side wins?

Bad poetry is undoubtedly on the cards,

    Okay

A lot of people say that I criminal with my clubs and my Alsations

But that is lie; we are good it was fault of Muslim and Croations

But now I don’t machine gun grandmas and babies no more, I heal

With my crystal pyramids and my orange peel

    You asked for it. :)

    Adrien, you are a star.

And JG, that is a very good question. I am uncomfortable with collapsing ‘population transfer’ into ‘genocide’, which to my mind should be reserved for mass killing. The problem is, there is no good way to effect an ethnic divorce where the warring populations are intermingled. Not everyone is as lucky as the Czechs and Slovaks, who could effect a geographical divorce.
