I come not with peace, but with a sword.

A pastor in the US state of Kentucky told his flock to bring handguns to church in what he said was an effort to promote safe gun ownership.

Pastor Ken Pagano told parishioners to bring their unloaded guns to New Bethel Church in Louisville for a service celebrating the right to bear arms. He said he acted after church members voiced fears the Obama administration could tighten gun control laws.

When the service began, some 200 people were present, AP news agency said. “We are wanting to send a message that there are legal, civil, intelligent and law-abiding citizens who also own guns,” Mr Pagano told the congregation. “If it were not for a deep-seated belief in the right to bear arms, this country would not be here today,” he said.

The pastor also held a handgun raffle, as well as providing information on gun safety.

And if it were not for a deep-seated belief in the right to bear arms combined in a toxic mix with religious chauvinism , Dr George Tiller would be here today.

Memo to Pastor Pagano: being religious and/or attending church is not in itself proof that you are a “legal, civil, intelligent and law-abiding citizen”, as Scott Roeder so eloquently proved.

I can’t decide if this statement is ridiculous, designed to incite, ill-researched, or ignorant.

    Most likely the latter.

Interesting that Jesus is morphing into Rambo before our very eyes.

Interesting also that when the govt threatens to deprive one of a right, a bunch of people support the move by coming out and demonstrating the good sense that lies in actually depriving such nutbags of their rights. All we need do now is get the Grape Street Crips holding a shoot-in; as a symbol of protest!

Like the legalize dope thing. Happens every now and then. What happens? A bunch of hippies show up en masse in public space and get shitfaced together. This guarantees the political impossibility of legalizing the stuff because it backs up the mostly unfounded and stereotypical fears of Mr McStraitlais and Ms Noenonsensos.

    Stupid Fucking Monkeys.

I do agree that the murder of George Tiller would have happened even if the murderer had no access to guns…. the guy clearly just wanted to kill Tiller, and he would have worked out a way. That church and pastor sound a tad eccentric, but it takes all sorts to make a world.

Google is indeed a wonderful thing.

As this blog’s resident gun-totin’ libertarian, I’ll just point out that Dr Tiller is dead because some nutter had thoughts put in his head by an imaginary person in the sky.

Well, the Son of Sam thought his dog talked to him, too…

[And Tim, some of those graphics are deeply disturbing]

They are disturbing images but they’d look great on a t-shirt 🙂
