Third Leaders Debate at Rooty Hill - Election 2013

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott will face-off in the third election debate in western Sydney tonight. The people’s forum hosted by Sky News will be held at the Rooty Hill RSL from 6.30pm.

The night will follow a similar format to last week’s debate in Brisbane where the two took questions from a room of undecided voters.

Mr Abbott, speaking after the debate’s announcement last Thursday, said he was eager to discuss his party’s plans.

“I look forward to the debate and talking about our positive plans for the people of western Sydney and for Australia,” he said.

“I put the proposal forward for a subsequent debate at Rooty Hill on Wednesday, August 28. I’m all for giving the public their chance at the Rooty Hill forum to have their say and that’s what I’m proposing.

“I think that Mr Rudd and myself should be questioned by members of the public and I am certainly up for that.”

Speaking the same day, Mr Rudd said he was looking forward to the showdown following the format of last week’s meeting.

“Fine, I’m happy to do that in Rooty Hill or wherever,” Mr Rudd said.

“The Australian public want to see their leaders debate each other on the big questions of the future.””
