Bureaucrash! (And a Happy New Year)

By skepticlawyer

While browsing the interwebs last night, I happened upon libertarian activist organisation Bureaucrash! While organising libertarians has always struck me as something likely to be rawther difficult (the phrase ‘herding cats’ comes to mind), these folks seem to be succeeding. Even better, their entire website is a very nice pisstake of stereotypical socialist efforts – right down to the colour scheme and graphic art.marx800x600.gif

Like the lefties, they pull media stunts, crash (sometimes literally) public events and defend liberty in all sorts of interesting and sometimes oddball ways. They are never violent, however.

My interest was piqued by some of their graphics – everything from screensavers to t-shirts to the more typical flyers. While some are fairly pedestrian, they’ve clearly got some black-belt photoshoppers in there, and I thought I’d share a few samples – apart from old Karl (right) – over the fold. They’re very keen for people to download their artwork and use it far and wide. Some of the screensavers are particularly good.

One is NSFW, which is one reason why I’ve popped them over the fold.

UPDATE: As GMB reminds me, my hunting around on the interwebs was originally inspired by Justin Jefferson in this post over at Thoughts on Freedom.

First up is a nice take on Thoreau’s maxim, and a reminder that GWB irritates a lot of righties, too – mainly because he’s raised ye olde government boondoggle to an art form.

Where would we be without the ISO hawking their dodgy newsprint around university campuses, promising us that there will be no rape under socialism and generally proving themselves excellent exponents of miserablism? As a bonus, this poster even looks as bad as the ISO and Resistance stuff.

The anti-censorship graphic (below) is pretty obvious, but the design values are nice.

There are plenty more on the site – these are just a few that caught my eye. I particularly like the ISO rip-off.

Because I used to work in graphic design (although my skills are getting a bit rusty now), I think I’ll be firing up the Photoshop and Illustrator and seeing what I censorshipbgsmallpreview.jpgcome up with. I’ve joined Bureaucrash’s online community, and will upload any gooduns to their site.

Suggestions from Catallaxians for funnies, banner ads and one liners are, of course, always welcome.

    Yep, the ultimate anti-Marx graphic.

    Yeah but sister.

Don’t forget to mention our new friend Mr Justin Jefferson.

For reminding you of these good people this very day.

I couldn’t find the comment where he mentioned it. I know it was over at the ALS but I’m not sure where. If you’ve got the link put it in a comment and I’ll update my post.

    Oh no no no.

I’d never heard of them before today.

And I then heard of them from Justin and then from you.

And so I went to speculating.

    Leave it Good Queen Skeptic.

    Its ok.

I was just thinking we ought to give as much credit to our new friends as we possibly can.

I was just thinking that in my wild speculation.

It’s okay, Graeme. I found it.

I saw a goodie in a shop once:
‘Don’t steal. The government hates competition.’

I think that’d do well on a flyer. I’ll have a think about some design stuff and see what I can come up with.
