Clarkson drops self in Brown

By DeusExMacintosh

Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson has said he is sorry for calling Gordon Brown a “one-eyed Scottish idiot”.

He said: “In the heat of the moment I made a remark about the Prime Minister’s personal appearance for which, upon reflection, I apologise.”

The broadcaster made the comments to journalists in Sydney when he was speaking about the economic crisis.

The Royal National Institute for the Blind said it had offered to meet Mr Clarkson to discuss his comments.

The BBC said it noted Clarkson’s apology for the comments and would be taking no further action.

Yes but he apologised for suggesting that being either Scottish or visually disabled are bad things in themselves. And he quite rightly still says that Gordon Brown is an idiot.

Yeah funnies. Maybe that’s what the Australians needed to do, bag politicians, or maybe just have an opinion.

This whole brouhaha is actually very funny — see this post at Tim Blair’s for more on the hysterical overreaction. It’s like everyone’s gone out and dosed up on Daily Mail pills.

Ok well there is nothing wrong with being Scottish of course and being blind in one eye is something that can’t be helped.

However it’s good to see that he didn’t apologize for saying Brown is a complete nimrod, so the rest of the apology is fine.

Are the first two descriptors really meant to be nasty? Would the myopic feel hard done by if I call Rudd a four-eyed [current leader of UK]? I sure don’t and I’m myopic.

    It’s a bit silly really.
