‘Oh, you’re crap!’

By skepticlawyer

Tim Minchin becomes increasingly desperate as he tries to resolve the Israel-Palestine conflict.

I’ve just noticed we seem to have a bit of a Tim Minchin thing happening at the moment, and since the other seasonal gags going around have already appeared elsewhere (‘no, the Easter Bunny did not die for people’s sins’, as I had to explain to a perplexed lady in the local Chinese supermarket today), Tim Minchin it is.

Once you’ve watched the video, the headline will make sense.

It is rough when you can only find one thing to agree on, and it’s a negative.

Oh dear – reminds me of a comment I heard on the radio. The host had gone to Japan and walked into a store that was promoting Easter and they had an Easter bunny up on a crucifix. 🙂

That is quite a common reaction in E Asian & SE Asian cultures (the lady in the supermarket was Chinese, and my conversation with her involved me dusting off my rather rusty Mandarin). I’d assumed that a small amount of time in Oxford would disabuse one of the notion quickly, but apparently not.

It is particularly hard to explain that there are two blended traditions in the European ‘Easter’. I’m sure there are exceptions, but people in Japan and China generally know if a festival has Buddhist, Shinto, Taoist etc origins.

It’s not quite “Ode to Joy” is it?
